Many participated in the pre-tour event the NAHB National Green Building Program verifier training course taught by the NAHB Research Center’s Don Carr. Not only did participants learn about NAHB’s Green Building Certification Program, they learned that concrete is a sustainable building option because of energy efficiency. To kick off the tour, participants visited two concrete masonry job sites. Followed by other sites using fiber-cement siding, ready-mixed concrete and Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs), day one provided a hands-on look at the variety of uses and benefits of residential concrete systems. Attendees met with builders currently using concrete to inquire about everything from cost comparison to R-value ratings. Across the board builders raved about the range of advantages.
